The United Farm Workers Union was the result of the joining of two unions: Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) and National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) in 1962. These two groups were founded by Filipino activist Larry Itliong and Latinx activist Cesar Chavez, respectively. The UFWU was instrumental in the fight for the rights of Latinx migrant laborers. It, under the leadership of Chavez, worked with various other unions to organize strikes, picket lines, and protests. The UFWU is still active today, fighting for the rights of farmers and dairy workers across the country.
